Where Land Meets Water Meets Sky (2024)

A series of five mixed media works that explore how the “feeling” of a place shifts and changes over time as does the weather.

Inspired by my first week in residency at the Icelandic Textile Center in June 2024, where I spent a significant amount of time in my room, looking out across the Blanda River, due to inclement weather.

This series builds on earlier mixed media explorations around place, namely, Impressions of Place (2020), in which I explore how colour, shape and line can be used to represent place.

Each piece began as a loose impression of the landscape outside my window. I added additional marks to the works over time, based on my memories and writing from the day the work was produced. The result is a palimpsest of a week in Iceland, each work becoming increasingly more abstract as time goes on.
