Hidden pockets of green: they are what home feels like to me. I have fond memories of many afternoons spent rock hopping and admiring the view from “pocket no. 1”: a quiet ravine tucked behind a line of trees. Even in the sprawl of the city, wandering off nature trails and into the forest has led to many more beautiful discoveries. But this ravine will always feel like the original.

‘Based on the Valley Land Trail in Scarborough, this pattern map is inspired by my walks in the area often as an escape from the stressors of student life. I have enjoyed this place in all seasons, and observing its sights and sounds has been a source of serenity for me.’

Since quarantine began, walking has become an essential part of my artistic practice. In a world that values production above all else, the act of walking—slowing down—can be a revolutionary act in itself. Emotion-scapes is a series of intuitive watercolour works that capture the “feeling” of walking through various parks in Scarborough, including: Morningside, Thomson, L’Amoreaux North, and the Bluffs.
